The under 13s had a buzz about them as they arrived for their first match as a team. The threat of bad weather was dismissed as an inconvenience at best.
Skipper George lost the toss and the crows were inserted.
Murphy and Ben strode out confidently to the wicket, and took this into their batting. Both looking assured in defence. After a solid start Murphy perished trying to up the scoring rate.
Ben anchored the innings well, putting the bad balls away and trying to pressure the fielders. Having hit a couple of nice drives, George was undone by a good Yorker. This brought Stan to the wicket.
Stan and Ben had a short but hectic partnership. Both ran well between the wickets and started to up the scoring rate. Ben retired for a quite majestic 25.
Evan joined Stan with some Kamikaze running, which inevitably ended in a short lived partnership. Leaving Charlie and Rosie to finish of the innings with some momentum.
The Crow’s posted 81. A par score.
The temperature had plummeted for the Crow’s bowling and fielding effort. Despite a tight start from Noah and an early wicket from Will C, the runs flowed for Shepshed. Will T was impressive on debut, bowling a tight line. George decided spin was needed, and for his first attempt he ripped a few before hail stopped play!
Shepshed were awarded the victory on run rate, having been 50-1 from 8 overs.
A brave and encouraging performance with lots of positives for the upcoming season!
